The Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) Foundation offers a New Member Scholarship to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to students at all stages of their educational career (OMS I–IV). One recipient said the $500 scholarship helped them pursue their medical degree without worrying about financial burdens.

SOMA Foundation’s Women in Medicine Scholarship

The Woman in Medicine Scholarship looks to award a student $1,000.00 who represents a growing population within healthcare and encourage the pursuit of leadership and equality within the workplace. This scholarship requires a letter of recommendation to be submitted. 

SOMA Foundation’s Transition to Residency Scholarship

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the Transition to Residency Award to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to 4th year osteopathic medical students (OMS IV only) who are in the process of matching this year. This $500 award recognizes a student who has shown exceptional drive, originality, or commitment in advancing healthcare, whether through patient care, advocacy, education, or community initiatives. Up to two recipients will be selected for this award and will be cordially invited to attend OMED 2026.

SOMA Foundation’s International Medical Outreach Scholarship

Up to five (5) students will be selected for the scholarship and receive up to $1,000 to cover expenses associated with a Power of a Nickel (PON) trip. PON global health trips are catered to providing healthcare and health education for underserved and medically needy persons. This discount is intended for those wishing to conduct research or scholarly activities related to activities encountered on the medical trip. A research article, poster presentation, article for publication or presentation at an accredited venue, or a publishable case study is required. The initial 50% of the scholarship ($500) will be awarded prior to the trip and the remaining 50% will be awarded after the research component has been submitted, within 6 months of trip completion.

SOMA Foundation’s UWorld Scholarship

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the UWorld Board Prep to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to all osteopathic medical students (OMS I-III) who are in the process of studying for COMLEX Level 1 and 2. Up to two recipients will be selected for a 180-day COMLEX QBank (one for Level 1, one for Level 2).

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the SOMA Scholar Award to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to students at all stages of their educational career (OMS I–IV). One SOMA member will receive a scholarship of $500 donated by the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA). The winner will be based on their essay response and CV.

SOMA Foundation’s PhysicianLoans A.T. Still ​Memorial Scholarship

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the A.T. Still Memorial Scholarship Award to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to students at all stages of their educational career (OMS I–IV). Up to two Osteopathic medical students will receive a $1000 scholarship to use for their medical education. Applicants must describe any clinical experience where they utilized OMT during the current academic year.

Marvin H. and Kathleen G. Teget Leadership in Specialty Medicine Scholarship

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the Leadership in Specialty Medicine Award to current osteopathic medical students who are members of National SOMA. The scholarship is available to students at all stages of their educational career (OMS I–IV). Up to two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students that are able to demonstrate leadership in a non-primary care specialty field. All applicants must hold an active SOMA membership.

 SOMA Foundation’s Innovative Leadership in ​Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship

The SOMA Foundation is proud to offer the Innovative Leadership in Osteopathic Medicine Award to current osteopathic medical students who are members of SOMA. The scholarship is available to students at all stages of their educational career (OMS I–IV). This $1,000.00 scholarship awards a student who has taken steps to better the healthcare field with innovative and creative methods that not only benefit the patients, but the physicians as well. Up to two recipients will be selected for this award and will be cordially invited to attend OMED 2025.
